HHS issued an interim final rule extending by one year the Section 504 web content and mobile app accessibility compliance dates for recipients of HHS financial assistance.
Who it concerns: Covered recipients with 15 or more employees have until May 11, 2027. Recipients with fewer than 15 employees have until May 10, 2028.

DOJ issued an interim final rule extending by one year the Title II web content and mobile app compliance dates for state and local government entities.
Who it concerns: Public entities with populations of 50,000 or more have until April 26, 2027. Smaller public entities and special district governments have until April 26, 2028. A government remains responsible for covered services delivered through a contractor or vendor, including related web and app work.

Some businesses may be covered as recipients of HHS financial assistance, while Title II dates concern public entities and can be relevant to vendors working on government services.
Public-facing businesses may have separate responsibilities under ADA Title III. DOJ describes its position that the ADA applies to public accommodations’ online services and notes that its regulation does not set out detailed technical website standards.
